Building Connection Across a Diverse Government Team

Client Overview

The client is a Singapore government ministry with a small, cross-functional team spanning a range of working styles, personalities, and professional backgrounds. Despite being a tight-knit unit, differences in communication styles and perspectives were creating friction that internal efforts had not been able to resolve.

The Challenge

Although the team had previously completed internally run personality assessments, these had not translated into tangible change. Communication gaps and collaboration challenges persisted, driven by differing working styles and perspectives that were leading to misunderstandings and inefficiencies. The Senior Director recognised that a more structured, externally facilitated intervention was needed to genuinely shift team dynamics.

Our Approach

We designed a bespoke half-day workshop built around humility, appreciation, and shared values — creating a comfortable, engaging environment where open and honest conversations could happen naturally.

Structural Strategy Challenge

A hands-on build-and-adapt activity requiring the team to plan, collaborate, and problem-solve under pressure — surfacing real team dynamics around collaboration, adaptability, and creativity in real time.

Strengths Spotlight

A self-reflection and peer feedback activity designed to surface and celebrate individual contributions, helping team members see and articulate what each person uniquely brings to the group.

Team Canvas

A streamlined alignment tool used to bring the team together around shared goals, values, and roles — giving the group a clear, co-created reference point for how they want to work together.

Guided Debrief & Shared Commitments

A structured group reflection to consolidate insights from each activity, draw out key learnings, and close with personal and collective commitments to sustain momentum beyond the session.

Result & Impact

01

Stronger Collaboration & Adaptability

The team gained immediate insight into their dynamics, recognising the value of collaboration and adaptability in achieving shared goals — with creativity and problem-solving visibly strengthened through the session.

02

Culture of Appreciation & Trust

By recognising and valuing each other’s unique contributions, team members developed deeper mutual respect and a stronger sense of connection, laying the foundation for a more appreciative and trusting team culture.

03

Shared Goals & Unified Vision

The Team Canvas gave the group clarity on expectations, roles, and values — aligning their efforts behind a unified vision and a tangible reference for how they work together day to day.

04

From Insight to Action

Unlike previous assessments, this workshop produced outcomes the team could feel and act on immediately — leaving participants with practical tools, renewed energy, and a shared commitment to sustaining the change.

Participant Feedback

I loved how the session blended fun, competitive energy with something more meaningful — understanding how each of us works and what we each bring to the team.
